Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the amounts of leisure time physical activity (LTPA) with some variables related to Iranian people with spinal cord injury. 375 participants from 10 provinces were selected as statistical sample (N=12851). Researcher made questionnaire was used as investigation instrument. Validity of study instrument was confirmed through leisure time and spinal cord injury experts; as well as its internal reliability was found significant by cronbach’s alpha coefficient (α=0.79). For data analysis Pearson correlation, Chi-square and Contingency Coefficient were used. The results of the Pearson test revealed that there was significant negative relationshipbetween age and the years post injury; with the amount of LTPA. The findings of Chi Square test demonstrated that there was significant relationshipbetween the severity of injury and gender; with the amount of LTPA, but there was no significant relationshipbetween sport and recreational facilities proximity with the amount of LTPA. Therefore, it is clear that women, older adults, people with less recent injuries and people with more severe injuries are general subgroups that had less LTPA. Thus, it is recommended for overcome unique barriers to LTPA, special attention and resources allocated to these groups.
