Determining Selection Criteria for National Teams’ Coaches in Chess

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determining and developing selection criteria of national teams’ coaches in chess. Statistical population of this study was three groups including athletes, coaches and managers that engage in chess related activities. 61 criteria were selected as selection criteria of national team coaches by using Delphi method and were categorized in eight basic dimensions. Data were analyzed by Kruskul-wallis test in significant level of 0.05. The results of study showed that managerial skills, technical skills, personality characters, emotional skills, social characters, individual characters, coaching background and athletic background respectively have more importance in coaching selection. Furthermore there was no significant difference between athletes, coaches and manager perspectives about Prioritizing of coaching dimensions; but, there was significant difference between their perspectives about emotional skills and individual characters.
