The relationship between personality dimensions and job burnout in physical education men teachers of Zanjan

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to explore the relationship between personality dimensions and job burnout in physical education men teachers of Zanjan. The statistical population was physical education men teachers of Zanjan, whose total number was 59 and all of them would be selected as statistical samples, but 53 persons of them completed the questionnaires.
The research method was descriptive and correlation type. Data collection was done by library and field method processes. The data collection tools were Maslache’s and Goldberg’s questionnaires that measured occupational burnout and personality dimensions, respectively. Results shown that 85% of samples were married, most of them had 40 to 49 years old (45%), had bachelor licenses (58%) and had more than 20 years experiences (51%).
The analysis of data with Pearson’s correlation test between personality dimensions (Extroversion, Openness to experience, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness and Emotional stability) and job burnout factors (Emotional exhaustion, Depersonalization and Reduced personal accomplishment) was shown that, the relation between Emotional exhaustion and openness to experience (P=0.001), depersonalization and Extroversion (P=0.008) and  depersonalization and openness to experience (P=0.019) were significant. In the other cases, relations were not significant (P≥0.05).
Because of the most job burnouts of teachers was related to reduced personal accomplishment, we suggested that to design some plans for improvement personal accomplishment of physical education men teachers in Zanjan.
